The iconic Self-Portrait (Tamara in the Green Bugatti) 1929 scarf depicts Tamara’s most celebrated painting. It was the precursor image of woman’s new freedoms and still today represents to many the emblem of the modern woman in her self-determination and heroic stance. It was commissioned by the female editor of Die Dame magazine for its July 1929 cover. As summed up by the magazine Auto Journal in 1974, "Self-Portrait by Tamara de Lempicka is a real image of the independent woman who asserts herself".
